“I was disappointed time and time again by the men I was meeting. It didn’t matter the education level or economic status they had attained, I wondered if all men were truly jerks. I didn’t expect to find a prince charming where I did. Three weeks out of prison and tied to his mother’s house by an electronic monitoring device.”
Monica Edwards, single again after fifteen years, finds she is unprepared for the dating challenges of the new millennium. In a bumpy journey of self-discovery she learns the difference between the fantasy and the reality of what is a “Good Man.”
4 stars - This is the first book I've read by Miss Clarke and hers is a voice that strikes a new chord. While the difficulties of dating for the professional African-American woman are often the subject of talk show chatter, Miss Clarke manages to get under the skin of her characters and humanizes their foibles with humor and a deft delineation of their emotional lives. I literally read this book in one sitting - a satisfying read. I very much look forward to her next effort.
