04/01/2010 - Well it's time for some lighter news - Dancing with the Stars is one of my favorite shows. The last few years I have vowed not to watch anymore, but I can't resist. Especially after Mel B lost. That really upset me. She was fantastic and should have been declared the winner. Then Mya lost last year. I know it was Donny's enormous fan base and not stellar dancing talent that won him the crown. Nothing against Donny - I actually thought he did a great job considering he's no spring chicken, but...
This year we had the usual "throw-aways" that are expected to be ousted early so the better dancers get more time honing their skills. My throw-aways were Buzz Aldrin - he's an American hero, but let's be real, he's 80 years old. Looks great for his age, but a dancer he is not. Then there's the much maligned Kate Gosselin - who I previously defended - thinking she couldn't have been that much of a shrew. After all John G wasn't a prince in the situation - in the few episodes that I saw of their show. Monday night her rehearsal recap showed us maybe she is a bit of a pill. Tony D has always shown a lot of class and patience with his partners, but she pushed him to his limit. When they danced on Monday - Kate made 80-year old Buzz's routine look good and the sheer terror on her face throughout the routine surely was one for the books. Alas - I expected it would be her or Buzz getting the boot. Well that didn't happen...sorry Tony....
Now onto Cheryl B - Chad 85 is a big flirt, that's clear. I'm sure he got a wake up call on Monday and again on Tuesday when he was one of the last few to be "saved". This is not a game big guy - step it up or you'll embarrass your NFL buddies with an early departure. Do I blame him for his stiff performance? Yes. However, I also blame Cheryl, who spent way too much time succumbing to his obvious charm instead of cracking the whip and making him a better dancer. These two have great potential and I hope to see a routine worthy of their abilities next week...
3/29/2010 - Unethical - A year ago I was laid off from my job due the the economic downturn. I was okay with it. I hated the job and the unscrupulous back stabbers I had to work with. I tried to find other jobs throughout my time there, but had not been successful. I think it was the company's reputation that was creating a road block. Anyway, I knew sooner or later it would happen and actually breathed a sigh of relief when the gave me my severance package.
Of course, that sigh of relief doesn't last too long when I realized that the economy was really tanking at that time and I couldn't find work anywhere. I was overqualified and not exactly a youngster. Finally after a year, I recently was offered a job and the third party investigative company was having difficulty confirming my previous employment. You see the company that let me go closed their doors in July 2009 on a Friday afternoon. They let all of their remaining employees go without notice. A sign of the economic times? Or so they wanted everyone to believe, however they reopened the following Monday under a new name and recalled most of their released employees back to sign on with the new company.
Why should this matter to me, almost a year after they let me go? The owners are the same, the remaining management members are the same. The HR person is the same. Yet this company that closed their doors as a manuever to avoid litigation and protect thier assets, won't confirm any employee who worked for them under the old company name. They disavow all knowledge of the company at all. I worked for this den of thieves and liars for seven long years and they can't acknowledge my history so I can get a new job. For years they screwed their employees, their contractors and their consumers and it is true a leopard will never really change its spots. The investigator said this lack of cooperation and I quote "unprofessionalism" from the company has more than likely been responsible for my lack of job offers over the last year. Charlatans, court jesters, snake oil salesmen and a slew a back stabbers still reside there. I'm grateful to be out of there...
3/21/2010 - Healthcare - CNN - Party of No press conference. They're at it again. I am so sick of people who have great health insurance for themselves and their families blocking affordable healthcare for those who don't. There are people who use the emergency room as their personal doctors because they don't have insurance and are causing our insurance rates to skyrocket. Folks, we are paying for healthcare for them anyway, this is what people are failing to realize.
If you want the option to not have healthcare that's okay. Then when you get really, really sick, you'd better have enough cash money to pay ALL the medical bills you accumulate by yourself. We, the taxpayers, shouldn't have to cover your medical debt, because you chose not to pay for insurance. You want to play Russian Roulette with your health, knock yourself out, but the consequences should be yours alone.
It boggles my mind that the Party of NO - No to the middle class getting any relief - sat idly by for 8 YEARS and created a STAGGERING deficit, that was even greater than we knew because of the hidden war costs, now wants to worry about your grandchildren's future. Give me a break and don't doubt my intelligence. This Party and like minded members of other parties claim to speak for the American people. You don't speak for me - I can speak for myself. I'm grateful that I have insurance, but I think about my friends and family that don't. I think about the people who are still losing their jobs and possibly their health coverage in the near future. I think about senior citizens on a fixed income spending 50% of their monthly income on health insurance. Costs keep increasing and their income stays the same. How is that fair. What is going to happen to them?
The Party of NO really doesn't care...and I'm sick of watching them walk in lock-step and hearing their talking points... Healthcare for all shouldn't be a talking point, it should be a real national concern and addressed in that manner...
